I decided to make February kind of my “Grand Opening”. I have finally settled into my new school, I have feel for the staff and the students. I went all out this month….
I am quite proud of myself and the students seem to really like it….One of my teacher’s shared this with me on Friday- one of her students told her this, “Miss Cornett has made my life 100 times better.” High praise J
I have set up three weekly Author Studies- Walter Dean Myers, Stephanie Perry Moore and Sharon Draper. For three weeks students will hear little exerts from each of these authors lives. I am using www.teachingbooks.net to gather information on each author.
Walter Dean Myers was the first week and his book display is seen below. All of my displays have an interactive piece to them. My school is using the TIMs model for technology use and this month I am focusing on QR codes J

I was asked by my 8th grade team to create a Holocaust display. In my research to find links and survivor recordings for my QR codes I found out that January 27th is the International Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust. This display will be recreated next year for this event. You can see I have used QR codes, these are link to survivor stories.
My biggest success though has to be Blind Date with a Book, which starts on Monday. I thought Friday would be kind of slow so I set the display up early and went about my day. A teacher brought her class down to STAR test and they kept asking about the books. As you can see by the end of the day all books were gone. Guess I will be spending the rest of my weekend wrapping more books.
Some tips- pick books you have read, makes it easier to do the write ups, let students pick out books and create their own. The more buy in the better. The ones that are really decorated are done by my kids. Final tip- patience with kids wrapping, I was shocked at their lack of skills. So I now proudly teach computer skills, digital safety, Dewy and wrapping J

I think the pictures speak for themselves more than my words J
