This summer I have been looking for ways to spruce up the Pirate Library without breaking my bank.
I am blessed to have a very large library. I have enough space for 2 teaching areas, a computer “lab” and all of the books. It just has one tiny problem…no natural light, it is kind of dark in there :) I joke we should just bust through the ceiling and create skylights or even one of those retractable dome roofs. :) My goal has been to brighten up the place and last week I figured out one quick solution…Pops of color!
I painted my book carts! A very simple process
1. Goo Gone all the tape and stickiness off the carts
2. Give them a quick wipe down
3. Spray paint in fun colors
I used Rust-Oleum spray paint and did 2 coats, a thin first layer and then a second for all over color. I found it took 1 ½ cans per cart to get all over color. I still have a few more carts to do because I hadn’t purchased enough paint. Just means more fun colors! My pointer finger did get a little numb :)
The blog Plaster&Disaster was very helpful however, I didn’t feel the need to sandpaper or prime my carts. They were in great condition and if the color rubs off then I will take it as a sign to change it up :)
Now my goal is to figure out how to use Disney’s glitter paint in the library :)
